Tove Cortnum’s professional background is deeply rooted in both the Danish and international retail industries. For the last two and a half years, though, she has been working as design and marketing manager at Society of Lifestyle. Society of Lifestyle is an international, family-owned design company with five own brands: House Doctor, Nicolas Vahé, Meraki, Monograph, and byNORD.
Tove is also fond of here home region of Midtjylland, or The Central Denmark Region as it is called.
My favourite thing that makes me proud of Midtjylland:
We have a unique entrepreneurial spirit and a very strong, unbreakable faith that we can do whatever we put our mind to.
In the central part of Jutland, you find the most beautiful nature. From the vast and raw North Sea to the west, to the wide expanses in the heath landscape and the lush nature covering Søhøjlandet with beautiful lakes, extensive woodland, and hilly terrain — ending in Århus, Denmarks second largest city, beautifully situated facing Kattegat in the east. Midtjylland has plenty to offer.
My favourite weekend routine:
I like to get up as the first in the house and enjoy some quality time by myself with a cup of tea on the terrace, quietly waiting for the rest of the world to wake up.
My favourite cultural spot:
International Street Art Festival is world-class street art and takes place every year in Brande. It’s always a must-see for me.
My favourite place for dining out:
I’m very much in favour of a lovely lunch rather than dinner. An invitation to Restaurant Sandgaard in Søndervig on the West coast makes my mouth water.
My favourite place for a creative or business meeting:
I love our showrooms where everything really comes together nicely. To get in the right state of mind, I like to plan my meetings in either Studio Home in Ikast or Studio Stockholm.
My favourite breakfast place:
Cafe Evald in Silkeborg is a classic and favourite of mine.
My favourite local entrepreneur or creative I want to promote:
My old schoolmate, Carsten Thor, started his business Thors Design in 2002. He makes the most beautiful furniture using recycled wood from old ferry berths in Denmark. The rustic expression and the sustainable approach are the zeitgeister of our time.
My favourite hotel for a staycation:
I really like Guldsmeden Hotels, which you can find in many larger cities around Europe. If I had to choose one, it would be Guldsmeden Axel Hotel in Copenhagen.
My favourite route for a run or walk:
A long walk by myself at the North Sea, where my mind can run free. You feel so endlessly small next to the great ocean in the west.
My favourite place for fashion:
The Latin Quarter in Århus, very special and filled with small speciality shops.
My favourite space for great design:
In Midtjylland many designers begin their career at VIA Design, and if I need a breath of fresh air, I like to visit the Innovatorium in Birk Centerpark.
My favourite local media:
I spend a lot of time searching for inspiration on Instagram. Right now, my favourite profile for inspiration is @astylistguide, but I always find new, exciting profiles.
My favourite thing at home:
I like to spend time redecoration and restyling my home and summerhouse.
