Stockholm Surfboard Club launches in Japan
Celebrating the Scandinavian approach to surfboard culture, art and fashion.

With a multi-purpose installation inspired by surfing culture, the Swedish brand Stockholm Surfboard Club has launched at Dover Street Market in Ginza.

The playful installation showcases the brand’s first collection, centred around a four-directional speaker dressed in faux fur, accompanied by open clothing cabinets made out of mirrors.

— The idea was for the installation to become an extension of our workshop and design studio in Stockholm. An environment that is representative of the brand aesthetic and our vision to interpret the past, present and future of surfing culture — explains founder Manne Glad.

The installation also features art pieces from two friends of the Club – Ryan Burch and Derrick Disney, who are both well known for their surfboards and immaculate surfing skills.

The brand was founded in 2019 by surfboard shaper and designer Manne Glad and Jonny Johansson – the founder and Creative Director of Acne Studios. Their mutual love for surfboards sparked the idea of creating a space to explore surf culture, art and fashion, this space later became Stockholm Surfboard Club.

The collection reflects the brand’s laid-back approach – surf goods such as surfboards and wetsuits are accompanied by boxy workwear pieces, flowy shirts and screen printed t-shirts.

Selected pieces from the collection are available at Dover Street Market in Ginza, and if you don’t have a trip planned to Japan you can check out the brand’s studio at Östgötagatan 33 in Stockholm.
