Carved straight from Finnish pine, Fredrik Paulsen brings a sense of brutal optimism to his newest Vaarnii collection, where the beloved 001 Stool and 001 Dining Chair return in a deep, warm black. A finish that transforms the familiar silhouettes into something moodier and more architectural.
”It’s been a long process to find a finish that feels intuitive, authentic, and raw enough to stay true to Vaarnii’s spirit,” says co-founder Antti Hirvonen. ”The black doesn’t hide the wood – it amplifies it.”
Vaarnii’s design philosophy has always been about testing the limits of its material, treating pine as anything but static. With this collection, the brand reveals how grounded simplicity can also edge towards the dramatic.
Following the earlier release of the 016 Maasto series in black, the 001 joins Vaarnii’s expanding Black Range. The collection spans the dining chair and stool alongside the 016 Maasto Dining Chairs and Barstools, including upholstered options first unveiled during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen.
Now available through Vaarnii and select retailers following its debut at Nordiska Galleriet in Stockholm earlier this month.
