During 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen in June, &Tradition presented the concept Studies of a Table together with designers All the Way to Paris, Studio Raw Material, Teruhiro Yanagihara, Stellenbosch Art Foundry, and Spiritual Objects.

— We wanted them to push the boundaries of what is considered to be the archetypal table, Lonnie Castle, head of brand at &Tradition, explains. They constructed a final product which represents their home countries of Denmark, India, Japan, South Africa, and the United States. It is a project initiated by us, but it’s not about the products, but rather a platform and kind of cultural exchange for them — an exchange of ideas.

How was the feedback?

— It’s been fantastic. 3 Days of Design is a vibrant and growing design festival, with more and more international visitors each year. Often the activity is in brands’ showrooms, showcasing new products. Studies of a Table provided a curatorial break, a more art-focused exhibition and a chance to see designers that are not often in Copenhagen. We also hosted a dinner, where everyone had a place at one of these tables and we enjoyed an evening of sharing stories and celebrating the collaboration. Everything happens and evolves around the table — stories are told, strong thrusts are shaped, and relationships deepen.

Next week, &Tradition will sell the pieces at an online auction, hosted together with Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen.

— We are so happy to be able to give people the chance to have these tables in their own homes and support good causes. All proceeds will go to charities chosen by the designers that support the arts, creativity, and entrepreneurship in their home countries.
