The acclaimed British designer is a long-term creative consultant for Kvadrat. His new collection comprises an upholstery (crafted from locally sourced English wool, unusually, without synthetic fibres), three rugs (which are handwoven, handknotted, and tufted by robots), and two curtains. The upholstery and the rugs are meticulously crafted from the finest wool while the curtains are woven from smooth Trevira CS. Technicolour has its roots in the curiosity that Saville has always had about the random industrial-coloured markings on sheep which he first observed on family holidays in Wales. He’s likened this to ”rural graffiti”. The palette consists of a scale of untreated wool tones and contrasting DayGlo hues, combining vivid colours and foggy, earthy tones.
To mark the launch, Saville has conceived an exhibition that is shown at the company’s flagship showrooms during the design fairs this autumn, including London Design Festival this week. It explores the narrative of the collection, which arches from agricultural to industrial, and reminds us that nature is not just a place to visit — it’s our home too.
