Space By: STHLMFW is hosting Built Different, a day-long programme at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm on 11 June, bringing together fashion, design, culture, and material innovation through exhibitions, talks, workshops, and installations.
The initiative is organised in collaboration with Nationalmuseum, Axfoundation, and Science Park Borås. According to founder Babak Azarmi, the event aims to create a platform for voices and practices that challenge established structures within fashion and design.
– Built Different is about the people, materials, and practices that often go unnoticed, are left behind, or remain in motion, says Azarmi. Visitors will have the opportunity to move through an otherwise invisible chain, from local fibres and resource understanding to design, production, and public experiences.
One of the highlights is a pop-up exhibition by designer Kevin Mukuri, whose work explores the intersection of fashion and material research. Presented in Nationalmuseum’s Sculpture Courtyard, the exhibition showcases garments developed using next-generation materials created in the Nordics through a collaboration with Axfoundation.
The programme also includes panel discussions on cultural heritage, future materials, and creative practice. Scandinavian MIND editor-in-chief Konrad Olsson will moderate the session Built Different: Future Materials, featuring speakers from Axfoundation, Nationalmuseum, Science Park Borås, Deadwood, and Member of the European Parliament Alice Bah Kuhnke.
Built Different takes place at Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, on Thursday 11 June from 11:00 to 20:00. All exhibitions, talks, workshops, and activities are free of charge, with free admission to the museum from 17:00.
