Complex puffer sneakers can now be custom-made for anyone — with just one push of a 3D-printer button
Have Rains and Zellerfeld just shared a glimpse of the future of footwear and fashion?

Rains brings its unisex collections to consumers across four continents and the Danish outerwear lifestyle brand has now joined forces with Zellerfeld for the launch of its new 3D-printed Puffer Sneaker. Founded in 2015 and backed by the team behind Tesla, SpaceX, Paypal, StockX and more, Zellerfeld’s manufacturing platform replaces traditional factories, and eliminates the barrier for designers. The company develops 3D-printing technology which enables to create puffer elements consisting of 90% air within the printed structure for improved comfort and durability.

With the help of the technology, the manufacturing process is simplified as no physical labour is needed within the production, which can also be kept local.

— This beautifully showcases the superiority of 3D-printed footwear, says Cornelius Schmitt, CEO and Co-Founder, Zellerfeld. Not only were we able to produce uniquely oversized and puffer elements that are traditionally complex to manufacture; we also did it with just one push of a button. Our goal is to empower all brands to realize their creative visions through accessible and sustainable footwear printing.

Rains x Zellerfeld.

According to Rains, this partnership can even offer a glimpse into the future of fashion and footwear, where style, innovation, and sustainability are seamlessly integrated.

— For us, to have access to the 3D-technology Zellerfeld has developed is a dream scenario for a design team, Tanne Vinter, Rains’ Head of Design comments. The realized product is integrated into our PU universe, offering our customers a head-to-toe option that feels signature to the design ethos at Rains — a small piece from the runway with big impact.

The Puffer Sneaker is custom-made for each customer, and is therefore made to order. This both reduces the excess of products and use of materials. They are also 100% recyclable and can become a new pair when they have reached their end date.
