Ahm&Lund explore new materials and sustainability in Copenhagen exhibition

Designer and furniture architect Isabel Ahm and cabinetmaker Signe Lund use their different crafts and knowledge of materials, to design objects and furniture which suggest new ways of living. This week, they show how in new exhibition Symposium in central Copenhagen, aiming to investigate different approaches to sustainability. That’s why the selection of exhibited pieces includes material experiments, such as using eelgrass and hemp fibres in upholstery as well as new materials from the wood industry. The hand-crafted furniture are also made with ”knock-down” principles, in order to be packed flat during transportation.

The duo also aims to open up a dialogue between experience and youth, between tradespeople, industry, students, designers, and end-users. Visitors can also take part in events, providing philosophical explorations into humanity’s need for co-existence with the planet, nature, its fauna, and flora.  

— The exhibition centres on the question of how we, through artistic practice and experiments on form and materials, can nurture new and innovative collaborations resulting in sustainable products for the furniture industry that make a mark in people’s lives, the duo says.
