During the world’s largest trade fair for the sports business, ISPO, in Munich last week, Italian coachbuilder and car design firm Pininfarina and Swedish startup Vidde previewed their electric snowmobile. Set to launch officially at the beginning of next year, the showcase offered visitors a visual feel for the snowmobile and to experience it firsthand through both virtual and physical prototypes.
— We have taken the company from an idea, through a first drivable electric prototype, to now showcasing our future design language, says Christian Lystrup, co-founder and CEO of Vidde. Together with our partners, we are breaking new ground not only for snowmobiles as a category but for the development of vehicles that meet future sustainability requirements.
Vidde and Pininfarina joined forces with the intention to develop a sustainable terrain vehicle with emissions of less than 100g/km. In addition to its electric functions, the two players have emphasised longevity and a timeless and practical design in a snow scooter that’s made to be sturdy and easy to service.
According to Xavier Blanc Baudriller, Senior Vice President of Product & Experience Design at Pininfarina, the collaborative project was a rare example of a client.
— Vidde came to us with a very clear scope and objective and an open and collaborative attitude that, together, created the conditions for bringing to life a truly unique product: a snowmobile designed from the ground up with sustainability at its core, designed to last.
