Tom Norland bought 170 hectares of untouched land in Lysefjord, Norway in 2010. His idea was to build small hermit huts on the land, but he soon came to the realization that the land he had bought deserved something more special. Norland wanted to give visitors the feeling of floating in nature and a front-row view of one of the most well-known fjords in the world. He took his idea to architect John Birger Grytdal and he created a cube with glass from floor to ceiling, Canadian cedarwood and beautiful exterior.

The sky lodges are 22 square feet including a well-equipped kitchen and dining area, two double bedrooms and a bathroom. Norland chose the danish design company vipp for the interior which is carefully chosen to harmonize with the pleasing view. Dark oak ceilings, perfectly placed lighting and dark-toned decor dominated the space. The cubes balances on a single steel pillar drilled 3.5 meters into the ground. They’re built just on the ledge of the sloping mountain giving just the visitors that feeling that Norland aimed too.

In 2020 The Bolder sky lodges were awarded cabin of the year in Norway, Årets hytteprosjekt. The cabins are not too far from the famous The public rock which was seen in Mission impossible 6 when Tom Cruise was hanging from it.

The Bolder sky lodges are built to minimize the footprint on the landscape and represent the beauty in simplicity that is Scandinavia. A visit to the sky lodges is definitely added to our bucket list. The price to stay one night in a sky lodge is 3700 NOK.
