Each time you use one round, you save 10 litres of water, according to co-founder Isabel Aagaard.

After the huge K-beauty trend and its 10-step-routines, there’s a growing global buzz for Scandinavian S-beauty and its innovative products with sustainability at its very core. In the latest issue of our printed magazine, we highlight 13 innovative beauty launches. This is #13.

The eco-enthusiast Aagaard is one of three designers, all from the Royal Academy of Design in Copenhagen, behind Danish LastObject.

— The company, she tells, is created to design our way out of polluting the planet with unnecessary single-use items. We create eco-friendly reusable alternatives to single-use items such as cotton swabs, tissues, and cotton rounds and are focused on preventing single-use items ever being created.

Tell us about your reusable cotton round, LastRound.

— They’re made from 70 % wood fibers and 30 % cotton. You simply add a splash of water, add your makeup remover, remove your makeup, wash them, and reuse. Each time you use one round you save 10 litres of water. You can throw them in the washing machine, with your other clothes, and when their lifetime is up — 250 uses later — they are 100 % compostable. They come in a case made of recycled ocean-bound plastic. Trillions of single-use products end up in the ocean every year. This waste generated from energy, transportation, water, and packaging is simply unnecessary if you make the switch to reusables. One pack with our cotton rounds eliminates the need for 1.750 single-use rounds — and their plastic packaging. That’s 17.500 litres of water. And that’s just the water…, says Aagaard. She adds:

— There are other similar products, but not a product that comes as close to being this sustainable in its materials, durability, and end life footprint. And the softness is amazing compared.

What else do you have coming?

— We are finalizing LastPad, a reusable menstrual pad, right now. It is the most sexy menstrual pad I’ve ever seen and with its ultra-thin three-layer design with silicone strips, it keeps you dry and leak-free and stays where you place it. It’s easy to use, fold, store, and wash. And, in this coming year we have some more beauty items up our sleeves, Aagaard concludes.
