After graduating from Central St Martin’s in 1998, Back run her own namesake fashion brands ann-sofie back, back, and ann-sofie back atelje until 2018, showing on London and Paris Fashion Week and exhibiting at various museums around the world.

— Last year, my co-founder Mattias Dymling approached me and asked me if I would be interested in designing interior objects, she says. I have always been interested in how our homes represent us and it was very inspiring and liberating to move away from the body and into the home. The first collection of interior accessories, Trophy Floor, includes a fake fur rug that looks like a fur coat thrown at the floor. Trophy Cover looks like a fur coat wrapped over a chair — a way to transform your regular kitchen chair into a throne. There are also the ’gala’ objects inspired by the red carpet and the Scalp lampshades made from wigs.

The brand’s name, Gnilmyd Kcab, is the two founders surnames written backwards. The first pieces have just been released through retailers and during Milan Design Week, starting two weeks from now, the brand will join Swedish feminist collectible design project MISSCHIEFS’ first international exhibition. Arranged at Fabbrica Bini, a space for creative experimentation and freedom, between June 5th and 12th, over 25 Swedish artists and their Italian colleagues will be present, curated by MISSCHIEFS’ founder, Paola Bjäringer, and Gentucca Bini, founder of the space.

— It’s a group show with objects from, among others, Åsa Jugnelius and Yngvild Saeter. After that, I’m working on a book about my design with the publisher Art and Theory and will have a solo exhibition at Liljevalchs in Stockholm later this year in conjunction with the book launch, says Back.
