Set in the century-old Central Post and Telegraph Head Office, which dates to 1912, the 390-room hotel holds a prime location next to the famed Tivoli Gardens and the Meatpacking District. Despite the pandemic, Villa Copenhagen has had busy months since the opening in July, where most guests so far, however, are Danish as the international tourists are yet to come back to Denmark. During Copenhagen Fashion Week, they were the Official Social Hub, hosting panels, events, B2B discussions, and shows.

Managing Director Peter Høgh Pedersen, you’ve spent almost 20 years abroad before coming back to Denmark for this project. How’d you describe the hotel?

— I believe we offer conscious, approachable luxury complemented by intuitive and personalized service. Just like our hotel group, Nordic Hotels & Resorts (which also includes the likes of Hotel St. George and Hotel Kämp in Helsinki, The Thief in Oslo, Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, At Six in Stockholm, and Skt. Petri in Copenhagen, Ed’s note), we’re committed to eco-sustainability through a variety of meaningful on-property practices and amenities, including a luxurious Earth Suite made solely from sustainable materials. Except for a variety of dining outlets, including a traditional Danish bakery, guests can expect contemporary and classic Scandinavian design accents that accentuate the original architecture in both the communal spaces and room and suite interiors to create an inspiring and playful ambience.

With the mentioned strong hotel lineup in Copenhagen, what’s so unique about Villa Copenhagen?

— Our genuine connection to the city’s architectural makeup and culture through the interior green spaces created to promote calm, wellbeing, and sociability. We’re also determined to redefine the luxury hotel experience with a belief that luxury is dependent on conscious and sensible choices that take the environment and communities into account. That goes beyond material things to an appreciation and enjoyment of the best that life has to offer. We hope our guests gain an understanding that conscious luxury is about enjoying everything from grand experiences and unexpected encounters to quality food and inspiring surroundings, while at the same time taking responsibility for one’s actions and travelers’ collective impact on the planet. Acting responsibly is at our core and we view sustainability as a conscious choice rather than a duty. As part of this unwavering commitment, we’ve pledged to promote and embrace the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The four SDGs that Villa Copenhagen will work towards are Decent Work and Economic Growth; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Responsible Consumption; and Production and Partnerships for the Goals. To work toward these goals, we’ve implemented a variety of initiatives on the property and in the city to support the environment and local community. From what is served on our restaurants to the amenities available in the hotel suites to the materials used for the construction, we take great pride in providing guests and local visitors alike with sustainable solutions and experiences, says Høgh Pedersen.
